SAATHI, launched in 2018, stands for Sustainable and Accelerated Adoption of efficient Textile technologies to Help small Industries.SAATHI is jointly implemented by EESL (Energy Efficiency Services Limited) under the Union Ministry of Power and the Union Ministry of Textiles.
SAATHI scheme is one of the most important topics for the UPSC IAS exam under the Government Scheme. India has around 24.86 lakhs Power loom units that use obsolete technology. SAATHI is a scheme launched by the Government to INSITU upgrade the technology of the plain Power looms as a part of the Power Tex India Scheme.
In India Power, the loom sector is mostly unorganised. It comprises many micro and small units that produce around 57% of the total cloth in the country. In all, about 24.86 lakhs Power loom units in the country use obsolete technology.
SAATHI scheme is jointly implemented by the Union Ministry of Textiles and the Union Ministry of Power under its PSU Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL). The Union Ministry of Power promotes EESL as a Joint Venture company of 4 PSUs, namely Power Finance Corporation Limited, Rural Electrification Corporation Limited, POWERGRID Corporation of India Limited, and NTPC Limited.
To bring energy efficiency to the Power Loom Sector and contribute to mitigating Climate Change by manufacturing and supplying energy-efficient services and products.
It will also help reduce the capital cost and pass on the benefits to power loom units to repay the amount incurred in adopting the energy-efficient equipment.
The textile units that come under the micro and small-scale industries are eligible to be part of the SAATHI initiative.

Under the SAATHI scheme, the EESL is the nodal implementing agency. It has a significant role in procuring energy-efficient Powerlooms, Rapier kits, and motors in bulk. It will then be provided to the small and medium Powerloom units at no upfront cost.
EESL to work on the aggregation, bulk procurement, and financing model that has already been successfully deployed in other sectors like Smart Meters, Electric Vehicles, and LED bulbs.
